Simon graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. After graduation, he obtained a Master of Arts at the Centre of Criminology and Sociolegal Studies at the University of Toronto, where he conducted quantitative research delving into youth’s perception of the police.
Simon earned his law degree from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. In law school, he was an Associate Editor of the University of Toronto Law Review and a Student Executive of the Criminal Law Students’ Association. He also gained valuable clinical experience as a caseworker at the Family Law Division of Downtown Legal Services and the Family Justice Centre of Pro Bono Students Canada. In addition, Simon was involved in a research project that laid the foundation for the Canadian Registry of Wrongful Convictions, a national database that critically examines the frailties of our justice system and the unspeakable harm suffered by innocent lives as a result.
Before joining Lockyer Zaduk Zeeh, Simon articled at a well-respected criminal defence firm based in Toronto where he assisted senior counsel with serious matters at both trial and appellate levels. Following his call to the bar in 2023, Simon returned to the firm as an associate with a particular focus on appellate litigation. In 2024, Simon joined another prominent defence firm in Toronto where his practice was centred on appellate matters as well. Expanding on this experience, Simon continues to maintain his focus on criminal appeals at LZZ by working closely with senior counsel while broadening his own practice at the same time.
Simon has appeared in all levels of court in the province, including the Court of Appeal for Ontario where he has argued appeals alongside senior counsel.
